Sup Y’all?

I have largely been absent by choice in participation of any online creative/journalistic activities. In the last six months I’ve been sick and sick of it all. My eyes shut, I didn’t want to look anymore. Tired. Ears might have well had wax in them. It was a meditative process, a time of reconfiguration and renewal. Upheaval.

Life is currently consumed by:
Work: I’ve worked at the Exploratorium, a Museum in San Francisco for 9 years. About a third of my life. I’ve somehow ended up as the creative lead for the to-be rebuilt Tactile Dome, a completely dark/blind environment which allows for a personal communion with one’s sense of touch while experiencing a kaleidoscopic array of textures. If you’re unfamiliar with the exhibit: it’s been as is for 40 years, built by August Coppola (of the) and Carl Day in 1971. It’s had a half million visitors in its lifetime. It’s a thrilling and very unique experience. To be working in such a project, in such a position has been a great honor and challenge. I hope to succeed in offering new air to and old hero; yet respecting the original artistic intention. We tear town the old in about two months. Rebuild in two from there. If you are near San Francisco, come before the old has gone to ghost, and come when it reopens and we can talk about how holy touch is.

School: As of Wednesday, I will be at UC Berkeley pursuing an Interdisciplinary Field Studies degree for the next year-and-a-half. My focus is essentially on the intersection of Aesthetics, Image and Power. I plan to use my tumblr, some, to play with ideas. I’m taking it all a bit more seriously than before. Though, mostly, I just want to get back to liking and sharing, liking and sharing, liking and sharing.

I was an early adopter of tumblr, a little over two years ago now. I had grown rather frustrated with the lack of infrastructure for direct communication between its users. It appears as if that has changed. I look forward to seeing how this is now utilized. Ideally, discussion is the aim, verbal or aesthetic. Let’s chat.
